Free DTH Satellite OTA Firmware left from GSAT-15

Updated on 14 June 2023 – We have updated this post today because when we checked the OTA software, it was found that now OTA software is not available on the GSAT-15 satellite for Prasar Bharati i-CAS set-top boxes.

What is OTA Upgrade?

Upgrade by OTA means that OTA = Over the Air means the set-top box will directly download the software available on the satellite and automatically install and upgrade it. If you understand it in a little more detail – Satellite set-top box – This box will download and install software directly from the satellite. Internet Set Top Box – Such a box will automatically download the software from the internet server and then install it and upgrade the firmware of the box.

Firmware Upgrade in DD Freedish Set-Top Box –

We wrote this post in 2018 when we were told that – ” Doordarshan released a list of approved manufacturers, allowed to manufacture and sell new generation MPEG-4 set-top boxes. These boxes will be different from the existing boxes In which TV channels were planned to be encrypted through iCAS. These set-top boxes come with OTA upgrade capability. Which enables remote upgradation through satellite connection. The hardware and software design of this system was done by a Bangalore-based company. For this, a total of four or five chip sets were finalized. Such as ALi, M Star, ST, etc. And then at that time, this OTA service Testing of DD Freedish was also started, as you can see from the OTA Firmware available in the old image of that time, DD Freedish’s Home Transponder was given to 11630/V/30000.”

What happened?

But whatever box was made, people did not like it much, the biggest reason was backward in terms of technology, that is, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 channels could be received in it, but it could not receive HD channels. Pendrive was not supported, the recording was not done, and there were many such features that were not there.

Conclusion –

So now probably the conclusion is that this plan has either failed for the future also or something new will happen in a new way according to the new technology, so OTA firmware might have been removed.
