Building your own AV receiver with 5.1 channel support can be a challenging project, and requires a good understanding of electronics, audio systems, and software programming. Buying a finished product may be a better option. But you can read it just for better technical knowledge.

Steps involved in building a DIY AV receiver:

Select a hardware component – You will need a microcontroller or single-board computer, an amplifier, and an audio codec. Design the circuit – Connect the components following the schematic diagram and test the connections. Write software – Program a microcontroller or single-board computer to control audio processing, input selection, and volume control. Assemble the components – Mount the components on a printed circuit board (PCB) and place everything in a case. Calibrate the System – Adjust software settings to match your speakers and room, and test the system for optimal sound. But You can buy a Prologic-1 or Prologic-2 5.1 channel decoder or you can buy a 5.1 DTS/Dolby Pre-Amp decoder to build an AV receiver with 5.1 channel support. We have created a simple montage project here. You can see it here. Note: This is a complex project that requires a lot of time and technical expertise. If you don’t have a background in electronics or software programming, this can be hard to accomplish. Many commercially available AV receivers on the market offer 5.1 channel support, so purchasing a ready-made product may be a better option. To build a 5.1-channel home theater, you will need the following components –
  1. Surround sound AV receiver with 5.1 channel support.
  2. Six speakers: One center channel speaker, two front speakers, two rear speakers, and a subwoofer.
  3. A DVD player or AC3 5.1 enable audio files, or other source components such as a cable/satellite box, or streaming device.
  4. SPDIF cable for connecting components.
  5. Speaker wire to connect speakers to the AV receiver.
Steps:
  1. Connect all source components (5.1 DVD player, set-top box, Android TV Box, etc.) to the AV receiver using SPDIF cables.
  2. Connect the front left and right speakers to the AV receiver.
  3. Connect the center channel speakers to the AV receiver.
  4. Connect the rear left and right speakers to the AV receiver.
  5. Connect the subwoofer to the AV receiver.
  6. Run speaker wire from the AV receiver to each speaker.
  7. Configure the AV receiver to match the speaker layout and calibrate the system for optimal sound.
Now you can enjoy your 5.1-channel home theater, and feel the cinema-like experience at home!
