It is amazing that there are so many intelligent people in the country but they are not able to understand why the number of viewers on cable TV or TV is decreasing day by day.

Although I know why intelligent people are unable to do this. I will tell you that too in this blog post. I will answer all the things point by point, if you agree with the post then do not forget to follow me because I will keep giving similar information in the future also.
I think these things have contributed to killing TV entertainment. I will try to put them in order so that according to the order it will be easy for you to understand –

A) Cable TV Became digital –

You will feel how TV channels will suffer the loss of viewers due to the digitalization of cable TV. That’s how –

1. Before digitization, the government did not know how much cable TV operators were earning in analog cable TV. The operator used to pay as much money as he wanted as entertainment tax, the remaining money was his.

2. At that time cable TV connections of most goons and some local leaders were shown free as they patronized this business.

3. At that time, the cost of a pay TV decoder and subscription was also given in discounts.

After Digitization –

In its campaign to stop corruption, theft, and corruption, the government asked cable operators to digitize cable TV.

4. Due to the change of cable TV systems from analog to digital, the cost of cable operators has increased, and many big MSOs have spent crores, who are working as distributors today.

5. Due to this, the connection count of cable operators came in front of the government, and the piracy of cable TV ended. Now the cable operator has to pay as much tax as the number of connections to the government.

6. Seeing so many connections and earning lots of money from it, most of the Pay TV channels that used to give discounts for Pay TV decoders to small or medium-type cable operators, started refusing to give the same and at the same time making pressure to increase their subscription charges.

7. Due to an increase in subscription charges for decoders of pay TV channels, many cable operators have withheld their payment and also stopped broadcasting Pay TV on some channels.

B) Fixation of MRP of Pay TV channels –

8. Fed up with such problems, Pay TV channels filed a case in TRAI to find a way out for themselves. Where Pay TV channels have made an MRP system for the subscriber so that the profit can directly reach the channel or network.

9. Due to digitization, most of the cable operators had taken the cost of digital set-top boxes from their viewers, and now it was another matter of MRP.

10. You would remember that before there was no MRP of Pay TV channels, most of the popular free-to-air channels and popular Pay TV channels were available for Rs.150. Due to this middle-class people used to watch their favorite pay TV channels for about 150 rupees.

11. With the MRP fixed, today the same number of pay TV channels cost around Rs.300 or more. Due to this, DTH plans also became as expensive as cable TV.

12. Most of the parents in the middle class did not take cable TV connection because they think that their child will lose their values and will not study. So, the doubling of the subscription plan became a special reason for those parents.

C) Smart TV entry into the home –

13. Now most houses are competing to replace their old TV with Smart TVs. Because OTT applications and YouTube are available in it.

14. In today’s time, as much as a month’s subscription to the Pay TV platform comes, in that OTT application gives a year’s subscription, that too whenever you want, watch it on TV or mobile.

15. Even after this, if someone wants to watch TV channels, then the government of India has given free satellite TV, for which a one-time expenditure has been made.

So now you think whether the subscribers of pay TV channels will increase or decrease in such a situation?

Wait it’s not over yet.

Now the question is that apart from India, cable TV subscribers are decreasing all over the world, so there is no digitization and MRP system. Why so Cable TV is Dying?

Here I would say that cable TV subscribers have decreased in other countries as well, I will explain the reason for that below. But in India, these two reasons can be understood as extra, so I told them first. Now I will tell you below the main reason for the disappearance of subscribers from TV channels.

16. If you talk to any cable TV operator today, he blames Doordarshan’s Freedish. Which according to me cannot be true from anywhere. At least not in the era of smartphones and the 5G Internet. Freedish, has just been born?

17. Today most people are busy converting old TV to Smart TV. In which the inbuilt means of entertainment is YouTube.

It can be viewed for free on –

  • All news and devotional channels are found live on YouTube.
  • Movies in almost all languages are available.
  • All types of music are available
  • Apart from paying money to broadcast the Pravachan, one gets the discourses of true saints which was difficult to get earlier.
  • Information about recipes, living conditions, and places to visit in small districts of all states.
  • Viral or trending news, or government schemes
  • Other Vloggers, live classes, solutions, etc.

18. So this was the main reason why YouTube in the form of Smart TV is being seen today instead of TV channels because most people in the family like to watch trending or viral videos as well as unique and new content.

19. But due to sudden and arbitrary changes in some policies along with YouTube in India, today it seems as if cable TV is ending, and it is skyrocketing.

20. There is absolutely no fault of TRAI and the government in this. Because the job of the government is to end theft and corruption, they did that. According to the justice sought from TRAI, they made the rules of MRP.

But then who is left to blame? DD Free dish, Youtube or MRP system, or Ignoring Free-to-air channels?
