If you are a cable operator or Cable TV subscriber then you can check the digital cable TV signal strength by the given below method.

Check the source –

First, you should check the source of how much signal you are sending to a particular cable connection. Source means a Cable TV amplifier.

Step 1 –
Usually, Cable operators use Taps/splitters for distributing their cable TV connections. So first check the signal status after the tap or amplifier. Because there may be a problem with the tap if good signals are not received by the viewer’s set-top box.

so unscrew the coaxial cable from the tap and check the signal status. The best signal strength should be received nearby a tap of about 90% to 100%. It should not exceed 100%.

Step – 2
Now go viewer’s home and unplug the cable from the set-top box and check the receiving signals from the cable amplifier. For example, if you have checked the signals nearby the amplifier at 95% and now you are receiving 75% signals nearby the set-top box then it is okay. Because 10dB to 30dB signals may be down for coaxial cable losses. We suggest you use a good quality coaxial cable.

If you are receiving signals below 70%, it means you need to change the coaxial cable or the cable may be damaged anywhere.

dB Meter for Digital Cable TV –

You can use SOLID SF-900 or SOLID SF-750, SF-750PRO for checking cable TV signal strength, You can find other cable TV dB meters from here.

How to use Cable TV Meter –

Just plugged in SF-750 or SF-750PRO meter to the cable connection and checked the received signals. You need to manually fill in the channel frequency in the meter. You can get channel frequency from your set-top box. Just press the info button from your set-top box remote to get frequency and channel no.

Just, fill this information into your meter and check the signal strength and quality. You should also check BER and MER for the overall quality of signals.
