How to make DTS / Dolby Home Theatre at home with HDMI?

If you want to enjoy premium sound quality then you should try this amazing idea. You should read this information carefully about how you can make a 5.1 home theater of real DTS sound / Dolby Home Theater at home. For this, I have collected 5.1 amplifier assembling spare parts like the 5.1 amplifier board, 5.1 home theater with subwoofer, and speakers. 1. Bought Unbranded 5.1 speaker Home Theater –

I bought a decent quality home theater with 5.1 speakers from the market which ran from the stereo input. Whose bass was good and the sound of the speaker was also good. I bought it for Rs.1650. It didn’t have Bluetooth etc. Because it was not needed. Let me clear some of your doubts here –

Home Theater –

Most of the home theater available in the market comes with 5 speakers and a subwoofer, it is called a 5.1 channel home theater but it is not correct, it is called a 5.1 speaker home theater which plays on stereo sound. In these, 2 speakers run from the left and 3 on the right channel. But here I am talking about making a 5.1 channel DTS home theater, that is, each speaker will run on a different channel or frequency, as in a cinema hall.

Why didn’t I buy it with Bluetooth? –

Bluetooth gives stereo output only, it does not support 5.1 DTS channel yet. The Bluetooth Dolby Digital Home Theaters available in the market come with Dolby Atmos which with the help of software creates Atmos meaning a Dolby-like Atmosphere. The fact is, Bluetooth can’t handle 5.1 channels of sound. This is an inherent drawback of Bluetooth So let’s go ahead. Tell you which home theater I got and why? Now I have a subwoofer with 5 speakers with stereo inputs. Now I modified it, and for that, I took out that stereo board from inside this home theater, look it’s an empty box. And inside it, I have installed 6 different channels amplifying board which is of the Salcon brand. You can buy any other amplifier board which is capable to amplify separate channels, without any merge. Currently, I have found only 3 or 4 amplifier boards in India that actually amplify the 5.1 channels completely separately, I think others are fake and wrong advertised. These are – 1 – InkOcean INK-501P 5.1 Channel Class D Power Amplifier Board (Bought from Inkocean Official Website but got a defective piece, Returned for repair or servicing) 2 – InkOcean TPA3116 5.1 Channel Class D Power Amplifier Board (Didn’t try, you can buy and check, yourself and review your experience by comment section) 3 – Salcon 5.1 Channel Amplifier 150/200 Watt Board (Bought from Amazon, and It Working Well, But I was Unsatisfied with Subwoofer Bass, It was just okay, not Bad) 4 – Salcon 5.1 Surround Sound MOSFET Amplifier Board (If you want heavy Sound, but didn’t try it, You can buy and review your experience by comment section)

2. Bought Salcon 5.1 Amplifier Board –

Although I previously ordered INK Ocean’s INK-501P Amplifier Board and Pre-Amp with 5.1 Surround Audio, both boards turned out to be faulty. Maybe they sent it without checking it. Don’t know, if it will be returned or not as most people do not give a warranty on loose parts. So I ordered Salcon’s amplifier board from Amazon at number 3 above.   (If it comes back, then in this post I will edit feedback about the INK Ocean Pre-amp and INK-501P Amplifier board, you must check this post once a week). 6 separate inputs were created for separate audio channels for Right, Left, Surround Right, Surround Left, Center, and Subwoofer expansion. Now you can see that I have fitted these 6-way RCA in my Subwoofer box because I had to give 5 inputs to this Salcon amplifier. So in this way, my 5.1 amplifiers are made to amplify different channels. I got input –

• Right channel
• Left channel
• Front Right Channel
• Front Left Channel
• Center Channel
• Subwoofer Channel

6 channel amplifier is done, now let’s see how I got DTS or Dolby audio with 5.1 output.

3. Bought Dolby Prologic-2 Decoder – Audio Rush Device –

Made an amplifier to amplify 5 channels but now I bought this audio rush to get Dolby / Prologic-2 / DTS sound from Amazon.

What is Inside Audio Rush? –

I have connected this device to my Home-Made Home Theater which I have converted to a Real 5.1 channel amplifier. You will see that most people have given negative feedback about this Audio Rush device. This can be true about the quality because it is made by different-2 manufacturers. I found this device to work just fine.

Important Things –

1. Most people understand that this Audio Rush Device can convert 3.5mm stereo audio to 5.1 Dolby or Prologic sound. But it is not possible.
2. Most people understand that Bluetooth input can provide Dolby or Prologic sound, but it is not possible. Bluetooth can carry only Stereo sound.
3. So if you are not getting audio sources by Coaxial, SPDIF or HDMI then don’t buy this device, you will waste your money.

So now I am sure you must have understood till here. Now let’s talk about what was my audio source.

4. Main audio source –

Now finally let me tell you how I got with the main audio source being Dolby or DTS –

A. By Using a Solid hybrid Set-Top Box –

I think this is the only hybrid set-top box in India that supports digital audio via HDMI, USB port, and digital SPDIF. If there is any other, then tell me in the comment, and I will try it. Also, Know –

What is SPDIF in this Set-Top Box?

S/PDIF is an audio transfer format interface. It transfers digital audio signals from one device to another without degrading audio quality.

How do I use SPDIF on my TV?

Simply connect an optical cable from the digital audio, source such as a TV, and then connect that to the DAC (Digital Audio Converter) or Audio Rush Device. So, I got 5.1 digital audio from this device exactly as I expected.

B – Receiving 5.1 Dolby Audio from other sources –

Although most of my work is done from this Set-Top Box when I am gaming, the HDMI source is received from the computer and there was no option for HDMI input in this audio rush. So for this I again spent 1500-2000 rupees which could convert from HDMI to SPDIF, its name was HDMI Audio Extractor Splitter. You can see below.
