New Delhi, August 2024 – Prasar Bharati, India’s public service broadcaster, has demanded applications from private satellite television channels to participate in the 81st online e-auction for DD Free Dish slots. This move aims to expand the variety of content available on India’s only free-to-air Direct-To-Home (DTH) service.

The DD Free Dish Launched in December 2004, DD Free Dish is a unique DTH service that offers a wide range of television channels without any monthly subscription fees. This service requires only a one-time investment for the purchase of a set-top box and a small DTH antenna.

The e-auction process is a transparent and competitive method for allocating MPEG-2 slots for the DD Free Dish platform. The private satellite TV channels licensed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) are eligible to participate. The channels are categorized into different genres and languages, each with a starting reserve price for the auction.

Prasar Bharati has recently invited applications from interested private TV channels to participate in the 81st e-auction for MPEG-2 vacant slots. The application process involves submitting a bidder registration form along with the requisite fee and necessary documents. The e-auction will be conducted as per the ‘E-auction Methodology’ notified by Prasar Bharati.
