Information about GSAT-24 Satellite –
This is the third satellite made in India that Tata Play is using for its DTH service. That is, Tata Play has taken on a lease from the Indian Space Agency ISRO.Satellite Name | GSAT-24 |
Satellite Position | 83° East |
Built by | ISRO |
Transponders | 24 Ku-Band |
Satellite Weight | 4 Ton (Approx) |
Launch date | 22-Jun-22 |
Benefits to Tata Play Subscribers –
- As you must have read in media reports, Tata Play has taken over the entire Ku-Band capacity of this satellite. So in the future, Tata Play may become the largest DTH service offering TV channels.
- All transponders in GSAT-24 have a DVB-S2 satellite system through which MPEG-4 and HD-quality TV channels will be broadcast. (However, due to a large number of customers, it is difficult for Tata Play to upgrade to HEVC instead of DVB-S2X and MPEG-4, as it would require changing the customer’s CPE ie hardware.)
- The reach of Tata Play will be much more than other DTH services because most of the DTH services of the country have not yet been able to reach islands like Andaman. The GSAT-24 satellite will also reach the islands of India.
- Tata Play will also get more than 300 educational TV channels run by the Government of India. Presently these channels are being received by DD Freedish and some channels by customers of Dish TV DTH, and Zing Digital DTH.
So will the Tata Play set-top box need to be replaced? ,
No, it will not be required. Because only DVB-S2 satellite technology is being used through GSAT-24. The firmware ie software of your Tata Play set-top box will download the software from its GSAT-30 and automatically start receiving the TV signals of GSAT-24. Of course, you don’t need to do anything. But- Those who do the installation work of Tata Play which was earlier named Tata Sky, have to update the new frequency in their satellite dB meter only then they will be able to do the installation work of their Tata Play. They can update or note down the new frequency of Tata Play which is from GSAT-24.
