A set-top box (STB), also known in common parlance as a cable TV box, satellite receiver, and television decoder, is a device that typically has a TV tuner input and a television set. And displays audio and video by changing the external source of the signal and can be displayed on the display device. They are used in cable television, satellite television, and DVB-T2 television systems as well as other uses.

How does a set-top box work?

In order for the set-top box to function, it must have a signal source. These signal sources can be an Ethernet cable, a satellite dish, a cable line (cable television), an Internet line, or even a simple VHF or UHF Yagi antenna.

The set-top box displays video, audio, Internet web pages, interactive video games, or whatever source it is provided. Satellite-based services also require specific external receiver hardware (LNBF), So the use of set-top boxes of different formats has never completely disappeared. UHF/VHF Converters –

When Doordarshan started in India, only two tuners were used in black and white TV which were inbuilt. These tuners were VLF and VHF. But as cable TV took its place in the cities of India, people used band converters in their black and white TV to watch more channels, that is, it was the tuner in which S-Band channels with VLF and VHF, or UHF channels were included. This used to get more and more TV channels running on cable TV. Their influence or market remained in India from 1990 to 2005.

Cable TV Set Top Box (DVB-C) –

A cable TV converter or set-top box was introduced in India under the Digitization program by the Modi government. That is, cable TV was digitized by turning off all analog signals. For which cable TV set-top boxes were used? The signal to these set-top boxes is given by the cable operator/cable head-end through coaxial cable. These are digital signals. By which clear pictures and clear sounds are available. Digital Television Adapter (DVB-T2) – It is also a type of set-top box. In which the signal is given by the Yagi antenna. It simply converts the digital signals available in the air into audio and video. This technology came to India after a long time, this technology was also adopted after the digital program of Shri Narendra Modi. And where this technology has started, the analog signal is being closed from there.

Satellite Receiver (DVB-S2) –

A satellite receiver (set-top box is referred to in the professional broadcast audio/video industry as an IRD or integrated receiver/decoder. They are designed for a stronger box and rack. Convert IRD or STB free or pay-TV channels available over the air to TV shows. The encryption key is used to decode the encryption signal for Pay TV channels.

IPTV Receiver –

In an IPTV network, a set-top box is a small computer that provides two-way communication over an IP network and decodes video streaming media. IP set-top boxes have a built-in home network interface that is connected via Ethernet, and Wifi. Which provides a way to build a high-speed (up to 1Gbit/s) local area network using existing home networking wires.
