As you know, Prasar Bharati had launched a set-top box with an i-CAS feature for iCAS-enabled MPEG-4 set-top box for DD Free Dish DTH service.
Prasar Bharati (Doordarshan) had said that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) would have to be DD-authorized OEMs to sell DD-approved Indian Conditional Access System (ICAS) and firmware/middleware-enabled boxes.
Because; DD Free Dish DTH tried to upgrade its free services to MPEG-4/HD quality with iCAS (Indian Conditional Access System) encryption. But unfortunately, this set-top box only supported MPEG-4 and not HD so this plan did not succeed.
At that time five set-top box (STB) manufacturers were selected by Doordarshan to supply encrypted MPEG4 STBs for its DD Free Dish service.
These original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) were –
- KMTS ENGINEERING PVT LTD (SOLID),
- Modern Communication and Broadcast Systems
- Velankani Electronics
- BGM Holding Company
- And Millennium Technology.
Those using free-to-air MPEG-2 set-top boxes available on the open market were required to upgrade their normal MPEG-2 set-top boxes to i-CAS to receive an additional 24 MPEG-4 TV channels. Option to upgrade to a capable MPEG-4 set-top box. However, these boxes did not have the facility to receive HD channels. For this reason, the public did not give them any importance.
If we look at those i-CAS set-top boxes today in 2024, it is true, that they were technically very backward. Because today in satellite technology HEVC/HD set-top box supports AV1 audio. Such set-top boxes are very less in the market right now, but available.
Well, if you currently have this i-CAS-enabled set-top box and are unable to tune it, then here we are telling you how to retune or auto-scan your iCAS-enabled MPEG-4 set-top box. Do it. ,
Follow these steps to retune your set-top box:
– Press the ‘Menu’ button on your remote and a menu will display on your screen
– Select ‘DVBS Installation’ by pressing the right navigation key
– A new menu will open on the screen with “Antenna Setup” and “Auto Scan”
– Select ‘Antenna Setup’ and click on ‘OK’ then change LNB Power – “ON” and click “OK”
– You will come back on the same screen, select the ‘Auto Scan’ option and click on ‘OK’
Soon the process of the auto scan will be visible promptly on your screen; there is no option to fill LNB frequency, Transponder frequency, or any other setting. Once the “Auto Scan” process is complete then press the ‘Menu’ button once again to return to the home screen.
If you are getting no signal or no TV channels in the scan, it means your dish antenna is not correctly pointed to the GSAT-15 satellite.
