DVB-S2X is a digital satellite television broadcast standard. It has been standardized by DVB Project. Now DVB-S2X Free-To-Air Set-Top Boxes are available in India, these FTA satellite receivers are also available in Pakistan, and China, and finally this technology coming in Srilanka, in the form of Freesat.
The latest technology in Satellite broadcasting DVB-S2X is an extension of the DVB-S2. DVB-S2X offers improved performance and features for the core applications of DVB-S2, including Direct to Home (DTH), contribution, VSAT, and DSNG.
DVB-S2X improvements are :
- Higher Modulation Schemes (64/128/256APSK)
- Improved filtering makes it possible to have smaller carrier spacing
DVB-S2X is based on DVB-S2 specifications but it is better improved than DVB-S2. - It uses the proven and powerful LDPC Forward Error Correction (FEC) scheme in combination with BCH FEC as outer code.
- Smaller roll-off options of 5% and 10% (in addition to 20%, 25%, and 35% in DVB-S2)
A finer gradation and extension of the number of modulation and coding modes - New constellation options for linear and non-linear channels.
- Additional scrambling options for critical co-channel interference situations
- Channel bonding of up to 3 channels.
- Very Low SNR operation support down to -10 dB SNR Super-frame option
DVB-S2X has been introduced at the same time as the new efficient HEVC video coding scheme. It is already available in new satellite receivers that will combine these two technologies to make the delivery of HD (High Definition) and especially UHD (Ultra High Definition) channels which are more efficient.
